Over the last hundred years, Chevrolet has grown into one of the most respected names on the road. The company comes from humble beginnings, though, and owes its success to a history rich with hard work and dedication. That approach is alive and well today at our DC area Chevy dealership, where we continue to strive toward customer satisfaction in all that we do.
Back in 1911, Chevrolet was founded in Detroit, Michigan by General Motors founder William C. Durant and the company’s namesake, racecar driver Louis Chevrolet. By 1914 the company’s vehicles were sporting the unmistakable Chevrolet bowtie emblem, and the following year they were giving the Ford Model T a run for its money with the Chevrolet Model 490.
Chevrolet continued to innovate, releasing new and improved models as the years rolled on. In 1918 the company was made a part of General Motors and released its first truck. 1927 saw Chevrolet break 1 million vehicle sales, also surpassing its primary competition at the time.
The Chevrolet Suburban Caryall was released in 1935, becoming one of the first SUVs on the road. Now 11 generations strong, the 2014 Chevy Suburban represents the latest incarnation of the longest continuously running model name in the business.
As the company entered the second half of the 20th century, they only continued to grow and innovate. The 1950s saw the birth of the Powerglide automatic transmission, as well as four-wheel drive in Chevy’s trucks and the first domestic vehicles to offer fuel injection.
The same decade saw the birth of Chevy’s small block V8. Over the years, this engine has been the heart of everything from Chevy’s capable trucks to the latest Batmobile, as well as more winning racecars than any other production engine.
At the end of the decade, Chevrolet released the first Chevy Impala. Combining family-friendly style and attractive power, the Chevy Impala has gone on to become the best-selling full-size sedan in history and remains an immensely popular model to this day.
As vehicles like the 2014 Chevy Suburban and 2014 Chevy Impala show, the brand’s dedication to innovation and performance has only grown stronger as the years have passed. With the cost of fuel climbing on a seemingly endless ascent, many of the drivers who visit our Maryland car dealer are eager for ways to save on fuel. While choosing a vehicle with standout fuel economy can make a big difference and our conscientious staff members are always happy to help you choose from Hyundai’s fuel efficient lineup, buying a new vehicle isn’t always in the cards.
Fortunately, there are plenty of other moves you can make to help cut back on your fuel usage. Even your driving habits can have a large impact on how much gas your vehicle uses. The simplest thing you can do to save gas is to aim for smoother driving on the road. Rapid acceleration and sudden braking both eat away at your car’s fuel efficiency.
Making use of your cruise control can help you control the throttle when you’re cruising on the highway, as long as you’re sure to stay alert and keep your eyes on the road for unexpected reasons to stop or slow down. Obeying the speed limit is also helpful, as fuel economy tends to drop off when traveling at excessive speeds.
Another key factor that Maryland drivers can focus on is one that they should be keeping track of anyway: maintenance. Many of the most basic and essential maintenance procedures can have the added bonus of helping to improve your fuel efficiency.
It’s important to keep your tires fully inflated, as reduced pressure can reduce your car’s efficiency. Check the sidewall of your tire for the recommended pressure, and get a reading before you drive or after your car has cooled down; the heat generated from driving can cause an inaccurate pressure reading.
Changing your air and oil filters regularly can also help your car to run more efficiently. Clean oil helps your car’s engine to run more efficiently, while your air filter ensures that the air that’s injected with your fuel is clean for more efficient burning in your cylinders.
Of course, the expert technicians at our Maryland car repair center are always here to help you determine what services your car needs most and to help you get back on the road quickly. If you have questions about your car’s maintenance or fuel efficiency, don’t hesitate to contact us directly at (301) 423-1100 or to stop by the service center. We’re open seven days a week; no need for an appointment, just bring it in!

The experts at AutoGuide.com recently crunched the numbers and compiled a list of America’s favorite luxury models. According to the list, not just one but two Acura models are among the best-selling luxury cars in the US.
While these models may be crowd pleasers, there’s plenty about them that stands out. One of Acura’s offerings that made the list was its first ever compact crossover design, proving that the 2014 Acura RDX continues to bring VA drivers the qualities they’re after.
Under the hood, the 2014 RDX delivers 273 horsepower and up to 28 highway miles to the gallon thanks to a 3.5L i-VTEC V6 engine.* Available all-wheel drive adds even better handling, while a six-speed automatic transmission with Sequential SportShift offers smooth shifting along with hands-on control.
Of course, luxury is still key in the 2014 RDX’s design. Perforated leather trim in both rows of seats offers up supreme comfort, along with power adjustable and heated front seats. Passenger space is abundant throughout the cabin as well, with a flat rear floor providing extra legroom for passengers.
The 2014 Acura MDX was even more popular than its smaller cousin, boasting plenty of space for families with three rows and seating for up to seven passengers. Leather throughout the cabin wraps all passengers in luxury, while theater-inspired seating offers a more commanding view for those seated in the rear of the vehicle.
Other standard features that luxury drivers will love include an automatic power tailgate, as well as an abundance of storage space in the cargo area and throughout the cabin. Advanced technology including an On Demand Multi-Use Display and hands free phone functionality also help drivers to keep in touch while staying in control.
Though larger than the 2014 Acura RDX, the 2014 MDX still manages to match its 28 highway miles to the gallon EPA estimate,* all while turning out even more power. In fact, the 2014 MDX can turn out 290 horsepower from its 3.5L i-VTEC V6 engine to excite family drivers behind the wheel.
Whether you’re drawn to the 2014 Acura RDX or 2014 Acura MDX, you can get behind the wheel for a test drive at our Acura dealer in VA. For more information on either of these exceptional crossovers, be sure to call Pohanka Acura directly at (703) 968-6600 or to visit us online today!
