Virginia drivers, Pohanka Lexus is now offering one of the safest vehicles on the market.
As Lexus has always been committed to developing safe and reliable vehicles for our drivers, Pohanka Lexus is proud of the recognition and excited to be sharing the news with our Virginia Lexus drivers.
Vehicles like the 2011 Lexus RX earn the distinction of being one of the IIHS’s Top Safety Picks for their outstanding performance in front, side, rollover and rear crash tests. Those that earn the top rating of “good” do the best in protecting passengers in the event of such crashes.
Electronic stability control, a crash avoidance feature that significantly reduces crash risk, is a requirement for vehicles to earn the Top Safety Pick.
With the impressive lineup of advanced safety features built into the 2011 Lexus RX, we aren’t surprised that it performed so well in industry tests.
The RX has always been a driver-inspired vehicle, with intuitive technology and an innovative approach to performance. Keeping that in mind, the RX is built with the following philosophy: the safest accident is the one that never happens.
That’s why the 2011 RX offers a variety of safety features that take innovative measures to prevent accidents from ever occurring. And still, should an accident be unavoidable, the vehicle is prepared for that, too.
All together, 233 crash tests were performed on the RX during its development. The result is an impressive arsenal of safety measures, like an overlapping pillar design that helps provide increased buckling strength and enhanced load sustainability when buckled.
Optimal visibility is another enhanced safety feature in the 2011 Lexus RX, which improves not only the vision of the driver, but of other drivers on the road, too. An Adaptive Front Lighting System is available, as well as intelligent high-beam headlamps. If their sensors detect oncoming traffic or vehicles traveling closely ahead of you, they automatically switch from high beams to low beams. And, once traffic clears, they return to high-beam mode for greater visibility.
Drivers will be prepared in the event of an unavoidable accident with the available Pre-Collision System, which automatically retracts the front seatbelts after sensing a frontal collision. Meanwhile, it prepares the Brake Assist system for increased brake pressure when the driver steps on the pedal.
And, since we know that accidents do happen, we have 20 Active Safety features offered on the 2011 RX, like our class-leading 10-airbag system. The RX also features active front headrests that can move diagonally upward and forward in the event of certain types of rear collisions to assist in supporting the head, thereby helping to reduce the severity of whiplash-type injuries.
