The debut of the Hyundai Ioniq has sparked plenty of excitement among environmentally minded drivers. As the first nameplate to offer electric, hybrid, and plug-in variants, Ioniq is truly an industry first. It’s no wonder shoppers at our Bowie area Hyundai dealership are so excited!
Of course, the main benefit of choosing an electric or hybrid vehicle is the reduction in fuel and energy use. Getting more out of every gallon of fuel—or, for electric vehicle owners, going farther with less energy—helps motorists to significantly reduce their impact on the environment.
The goal of the Ioniq lineup is to help drivers do exactly that—and the 2017 Ioniq Electric succeeds with flying colors. In fact, it has now taken the title of the most energy-efficient car on sale in the U.S., beating out some very stiff competition.
For traditional vehicle, efficiency is measured in Miles Per Gallon, typically seen as mpg. This is also used to measure the efficiency of the Hyundai hybrids at our Bowie area dealership, which use electric motors to help their gas engines use less fuel.
For electric vehicles, the EPA measures efficiency in MPGe, which indicates Miles Per Gallon Equivalent. This refers to the distance an electric vehicle can travel using an amount of electric energy equivalent to the energy found in a gallon of tradition gasoline.
The 2017 Ioniq Electric checks in at an EPA-estimated 135 MPGe, beating out all of its current competition in the U.S. electric car market.* With an EPA-rated range of 124 miles, the 2017 Ioniq Electric truly brings drivers a completely new take on what an electric vehicle has the potential to be capable of.

Here at our Bowie area Hyundai dealership, we’re just a stone’s throw from FedExField. Needless to say, we’ve got plenty of Redskins fans rolling through on their way to the game! When you’re getting ready to tailgate, though, it’s important to know what to expect so that you can plan accordingly.
The team at FedExField aims to make tailgating a safe and family friendly festivity. While tailgating is permitted in every parking lot, using an extra space to set up your camp is only designated in certain areas—typically at the back of the lot.
For safety’s sake, it’s also crucial not to block the aisle between spaces so that car traffic, pedestrians, and emergency vehicles can get through. This means if you want to set up closer to the stadium, you’ll need to limit your setup to the area immediately surrounding your parking space. This is where the 2017 Hyundai Elantra is a lifesaver for Bowie area fans!
As a compact model, the 2017 Elantra lets you maximize the leftover space in your parking spot. Don’t underestimate its preparedness for the parking lot party, though; a trunk that checks in at over 14 cubic feet of cargo space is only the beginning.
With a 60/40 split in the rear row, you can fold part of the rear seat down to expand the cargo area while still seating three or four passengers. That’s plenty of space to slide in your cooler, folding table, and canopy with space left over in the trunk!
Once you arrive, your #1 priority is to have fun! All lots at FedExField are open at four hours prior to kickoff, providing plenty of time to enjoy yourself before the game. To extend the party a bit, the RedZone Lot opens five hours prior to kickoff.
To learn more about how you and your vehicle can get ready for a season of fun, be sure to contact Pohanka Hyundai online or to call our team at (301) 423-1100 today.

If you have a slow leak or suspect that your tires may not be properly inflated, the team at our Hyundai service center near Bowie is here to help you make sure that everything is in order. From replacing your tires to ensuring that they’re properly aligned and inflated, we’re eager to help you get the most out of your tires.
What about when you’re out on the road and encounter a flat tire, though? Road debris or potholes can lead to unexpected flats. No one’s eager to pay for an avoidable roadside assistance or towing bill, which is why we recommend familiarizing yourself with your spare tire so that you can drive your vehicle in yourself!
If you’ve never changed a tire before, our Bowie area certified Hyundai technicians recommended practicing with a dry run in your driveway or a nearby parking lot. Changing a tire for the first time is no fun on the side of the road.
Begin by ensuring your vehicle is on a flat surface, as far from the flow as traffic as possible. When possible, it’s worthwhile to try pulling into a parking lot as opposed to parking on the shoulder of the road. Next, ensure that your vehicle is in park and that the parking brake is engaged.
Using the lug wrench in your car’s spare tire kit, break each of the lug nuts loose on the wheel with the flat tire. Doing this before jacking up the car allows you to apply force without simply spinning the wheel.
Next, place the jack under the car near the flat, and begin raising it up. The welded seam or the vehicle frame are typically good places to place the jack, but be sure to consult your vehicle’s manual to see if there is a specified area to place the jack. This is another benefit of doing a dry run at home.
Once the wheel is completely off the ground, finish removing the lug nuts and take off the wheel. You can then place the spare tire onto the lugs and hand tighten the lug nuts as much as possible. Once you lower the vehicle back to the ground, use the lug wrench to finish tightening the nuts as much as you can. On a four-lug wheel, tighten opposite sides one by one; on a five-lug wheel, follow a star pattern while tightening. This ensures even tightening.
Once everything is packed away, head to Pohanka Hyundai to have your flat tire replaced or repaired. We offer extended hours seven days a week; no need for an appointment, just bring it in! Be sure to come in soon, as spare tires are only intended to act as temporary replacements. Also be sure to note the maximum speed for your spare, which tends to be around 50 mph or so.
If you have questions about maintaining your vehicle’s tires, or if you know that one of your tires is in need of repair, then be sure to contact us online or to call our team at (301) 423-1100 today to learn more!
