Even wish these slushy road conditions drivers hit the gas when the light turns green, and they kick all that slush into their suspension. Take a few tips from our Salisbury Nissan service center in order to keep your car running better in these extreme temperatures.
First we will start with the cleaning process. Have you ever seen cars with their windshield wipers lifted off the windshield? No, these people aren’t crazy. This is done so the wiper blades don’t freeze to the glass. Before you use the wipers you should clean them with washer fluid.
Are your door locks frozen? Use deicer, but if you don’t have any, you can also heat your key slightly then use it. Some people use a match because it won’t overheat the key. In these freezing temperatures we often hear a lot of people complaining about their doors being frozen shut. Prevent this by using silicone on the rubber seals.
While driving, our MD Auto repair specialists highly suggest taking it slow. When you spin your tires you actually kick the slush up into your suspension, which can cause issues. Also, taking your time can help you avoid an accident. Be sure your tires have enough tread (always remember the penny rule: if you see the top of Lincoln’s head, it is time for new ones).
If your windows are fogging up too much, it is because cold air inside is hitting the warm windshield. You need to balance the dew points so make sure the recirculate feature is off, crack a window, blast the defroster, and, surprisingly, turn on the A/C because it has a dehumidifier in it.
Do not wash your car in below freezing temperatures. You are causing more harm than good. Wait until it gets higher than the freezing point and be sure to get an undercarriage wash so the salt doesn’t deteriorate any materials.
We hope we helped you brave the winter a little better. If you have any other questions, please call our Salisbury, MD Nissan service center at (866) 547-4990.
