With the holidays behind us, now is the perfect time to winterize your Nissan at our Virginia service center before it gets any colder-if you haven’t already! With a hand from our certified technicians, getting ready for colder weather is a breeze.
Taking care of routine maintenance like an oil change and fluid check is always a good idea when harsh weather is on the way. We also suggest paying special attention to flexible components—like your belts and hoses—since the cold weather will subject them to added stress.
Of course, your car also has another major rubber component: your tires!
If you’re looking to ensure optimum traction even when it’s cold and the roads are slick, then swapping out your usual tires for winter tires at our Nissan tire center in Virginia is a great idea.
Many drivers tend to think that winter tires are only necessary if they’re expecting to be out in the snow, but that’s simply not the case. While it’s true that most winter tires do sport beefier tread that comes in handy on snowy roads, tread isn’t even their primary benefit!
The reason they’re called winter tires rather than snow tires is the material that they’re made of. Even when the roads are clear, winter tires are made from a type of rubber that’s designed specifically to function better in cold temperatures. While all-season tires will grow too stiff in cold weather, winter tires will remain flexible to provide optimum traction as temperatures dip.
Whether you plan on purchasing an alternate set of wheels for easy switching or just want to install winter tires on your usual rims, our certified technicians are here to make the transition from all-season to winter tires as quick and easy as possible!
To serve you better, we offer extended hours Monday through Saturday; no need for an appointment, just bring it in! For more information on winter prep, or if you prefer to schedule an appointment, don’t hesitate to contact Pohanka Nissan of Fredericksburg online or to call our team at (540) 898-5200 today.

Here at our Virginia Chevy dealer, we know that passionate motorists will go to great lengths to care for and protect their vehicles. For many aficionados, particularly those who have fallen head over heels for a fine American muscle car like the 2017 Camaro, this means tucking their vehicle away when winter weather arrives.
If you plan on covering up your vehicle for the season—or for parts of it—it’s important to make sure that your vehicle is clean beforehand. A thorough detailing will remove messes from the interior to prevent a musty smell, as well as dust and grime from the exterior that could cause trouble beneath a car cover.
Once your car has been thoroughly detailed, it’s time to cover it up. If that sounds pretty simple, that’s because it is—but only once you’ve chosen the right cover for your vehicle and circumstances!
When you think of the right fit, chances are that your first thoughts are in regards to sizing. Virginia drivers will need more than just a cover that fits over their 2017 Chevrolet Camaro, though; they’ll also need a cover that’s right for their purposes!
If you’re storing your vehicle indoors, a light cover is typically enough to protect against dust and any gentle bumps in your garage. In this case, there’s really not much benefit in choosing a heavy outdoor cover.
When your car will be covered up outdoors, though, you’re up against a whole new range of potential hazards. From rain and snow to UV rays, bird droppings, and stray stones, outdoor covers are built to offer sturdier protection against the elements. Choosing the right cover will consistently offer better results, so a heavier cover is worth the extra cost when you’re expecting to store your car outdoors for any amount of time.
While a specialty car cover will do the trick for your Camaro’s exterior and interior, you’ll want to speak with one of our certified mechanics if you have plans to store your vehicle for long stretches. Depending on the amount of time, it may be in your best interests to drain fluids or equip a battery tender. For more information on long-term storage, or to schedule a thorough detailing before breaking out the car cover, be sure to contact Pohanka Chevrolet online or to call us at (703) 968-6677!

Halloween can be a spooky time of year, and most of the ghosts and ghouls of the holiday tend to be aimed at offering a fun fright for kid. Of course, adults have their own little troubles to be scared of. Fortunately, there’s no need to be afraid of dirty oil when you can always come in for a quick and easy oil change at our Acura service center serving DC.
This is an especially good idea as Halloween is the first of many coming holidays, and holidays tend to mean lots of travel for busy drivers. Halloween, though, tends to call primarily for travel on foot. Your sneakers don’t need an oil change, but our DC area Acura dealership has still got some tips to help you and the little ones stay safe and happy while trick-or-treating!
Winging it might sound like fun, but taking the time to plan a route that covers the neighborhood without doubling back or wasting time can help you make the most of the time before the kids start to tucker out. You can also take the time to drive your route at night beforehand to make sure things are well lit along the way.
On a similar note, be sure to factor the walking that comes with trick-or-treating into your child’s costume. If you can’t find comfortable shoes that fit the bill, it’s a good idea to snap a few photos in costume footgear before switching children into more comfortable shoes for walking the neighborhood.
Speaking of costumes, it’s important to consider visibility. Flashlights, glow sticks, and reflective tape can all help kids to stay visible and prevent accidents. If black is a critical component of the costume, don’t worry; you can get black reflective tape for the best of both worlds!
Wherever you’re headed, taking time to prepare beforehand is the best way to stay safe and avoid unwelcome surprises—just like car maintenance! For more Halloween tips, or to learn more about how to properly care for your car this autumn, be sure to contact Pohanka Acura online or to call our team directly at (703) 968-6600 today.
